Sarah Chen
Perfectionist, team leader, and the reason our Instagram feed looks so damn good
Sarah's Story
I came to gardening through architecture, actually. I studied landscape architecture at university, but I quickly realized I didn't want to be stuck behind a desk all day. I wanted to be outside, working with my hands, seeing immediate results.
So I took an apprenticeship and learned the practical side—pruning, lawn care, plant maintenance. Turns out I have a bit of an obsessive streak when it comes to precision. If a hedge isn't perfectly level, it drives me crazy. The team jokes that I bring a spirit level to every job (I don't... but I've been tempted).
Now I lead our Brighton and Kew teams, which means I'm juggling schedules, training new staff, and still getting my hands dirty on-site. I love the variety—one day I'm shaping roses in a Toorak courtyard, the next I'm overseeing a commercial property in the city.
The best part? Clients who appreciate craftsmanship. When someone notices the crisp edges on their lawn or the symmetry of their hedges, that's when I know we've nailed it. Details matter, and I'm all about the details.

Favorite Task
Rose pruning in winter. There's something meditative about it—assessing each cane, making strategic cuts, envisioning next season's blooms.
Photography Hobby
Obsessed with photography—gardens, architecture, street scenes. Saved up for a proper camera last year and now I'm unstoppable. Instagram is @sarahshots_melb if you're curious.
Music Life
Indie folk at work, but electronic music lover at heart. Been to every Laneway Festival since 2018. My friends call me a "chill workaholic" which... fair.
Fitness Routine
Early morning yoga before work keeps me centered. Also rock climbing on weekends—turns out pruning trees builds great upper body strength for bouldering.
Coffee Snob
Unashamedly obsessed with specialty coffee. I know every good cafe in Brighton, Kew, and Toorak—occupational benefit of working across suburbs.
Guilty Pleasure
Reality TV design shows. "The Block" is my weakness. I yell at the TV when they make bad landscaping choices (which is often).
Sarah's Philosophy
"Precision isn't about being uptight—it's about respect. Respect for the client's property, respect for the craft, and respect for the garden itself."
What Sarah's Clients Say
"Sarah's attention to detail is unmatched. She notices things I don't even see—dead leaves tucked in corners, slightly uneven edges. Our garden has never looked better."
— Emma R., Brighton
"The progress photos Sarah sends after each visit are fantastic. It's so satisfying to see the before/after transformation. Feels like I'm getting value for money every single time."
— Michael T., Kew
